Las Vegas was not always the way it is right now full of colors, sounds and entertainment. At one time it was merely a desert oasis that was settled by the original indigenous clans. That was until Rafael Rivera settled there and it became the shortcut from Los Angeles to California.

First Vegas Settlers

The next explorer who went to live in Las Vegas was John C. Fremont. He arrived on May 13th, 1844. He is enshrined in the history books. A hotel and casino was even named after him, the Fremont Hotel and Casino. The key street of Las Vegas, where the casinos are lined up, is also named after John C. Fremont Fremont Street.

Mormon Influence

Not so many people know that many of the people living in Vegas are Mormons. The reason behind this is that Mormons settled in Vegas from Salt Lake City in 1855. The Mormons made a settlement in Vegas and built a fort. They also cultivated the land and mined lead. However in 1858, the Mormons decided to move out of Las Vegas, but not before leaving an inheritance. A Mormon Church was erected in Vegas.

Vegas Gambling History

Vegas was not always a Centre for gamblers. There was a time in its history when betting was judged illegal. On October 1, 1910 gambling was declared illegal. This law lasted for only 3 weeks; because it was still illegal to bet, even flip a coin, the people began to create underground gambling holes. It was only in 1931 that gambling was ultimately legalized in Las Vegas. In 1941 the first of the various casinos was built, the El Rancho Vegas Hotel-Casino. This casino has long been gone after it burned down in 1960, but many casinos appeared after it.

Las Vegas Strips

The El Rancho was the first of the many casinos in Las Vegas. After it was built 1 or 2 others were built along the roads from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, which led on to the forming of the famous Las Vegas Strip. The early hotels and casinos built on that strip were the Last Frontier, Thunderbird and the Club Bingo.

Las Vegas Entertainment

Not only is Vegas called the betting capital of the US but it’s also an entertainment hub. Again, El Rancho Vegas was the precursor to the entertainment scene of Las Vegas. It hosted a considerable number of performers to provide entertainment. Stardust Hotel was the first to start the production style entertainment in Vegas. After Stardust, lots of other hotels and casinos started their own entertainment production.

Vegas Mega Casinos

Not long after, Las Vegas became a home to mega casinos. These casino resorts had more than a thousand rooms and other spectacular features. These hostels and casinos cost up to $1 bill to build and folk just keep on coming to be in shock of them.
