A Carnival of Variety: Punks, the most extrovert of characters, businessmen, workers, housewives, whole families; in total around 1.4 million visitors from all over the globe come together in Berlin for the occasion. They love the Carnival and have good reason! The costumes are fantastic, intriguing, récherché, original, each and every one different and with their own personal touch. Particular attention is given to the themes, and above all that the details and striking, bold colours are in keeping with current trends. The ‘Culture’ Carnival: The ‘Culture’ Carnival takes place in the district of Kreuzberg over 4 days, generally from the 13th to the 16th of May. I can assure you that this street Carnival is one of the most beautiful, filled with artists from all over the world, well-known and new-to-the-scene musicians, entertainers, or simply crazy but lovely people, and, most notably, from 70 countries! Just imagine the culture, the intermingling of languages and gestures, it really is something magical. You can attend galas, salsa shows, and many other forms of Latin dance such as tango, flamenco etc., but also more traditional styles of dancing. You will be able to go to “manouche” jazz, funk, reggae-dance-hall, electrónica and rock concerts, among many others.

You’ll also be able to feel the vibrations from the percussion in your body, the voices making you tremble, and find yourself under the spell of electro, oriental, creole, greek, armenian, african, and a whole world of notes!

Each day, the Carnival welcomes different artists. There is a huge selection! And with a little adjustment to the program, you will be able to choose where to go and move at your own rhythm.
Just imagine, everybody comes out on the streets to see the spectacle, drink beer and eat some of the famous “wurst” (sausage). Decorated tanks parade the streets with the powerful rhythm of music invading you. The artists on the stages are worshipped as if they were living gods.

The atmosphere is exciting, colourful, happy….long live the party! It’s a fantastic place for a holiday, among friends or with family, above all don’t hesitate to bring the kids, as they will come out awestruck.

The best way to fully enjoy the Carnival is to book a flat in Berlin, where you will be at liberty as far as timing and meals are concerned. It’s also generally cheaper than a hotel. But you’ll need to organise it plenty in advance!
