Shopping Zone
Firstly there the best- known tourist magnet needs to be mentioned: the Kurfürstendamm (Zoologischer Garten), with its variety of sophisticated jewellery and clothes shops. Designer labels such as Hugo Boss, Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger can be found along this golden mile of shopping in the western part of Berlin. Even normal shops like H & M, Zara, Mango etc. can be found near the “Bahnhof Zoo”.
In the “Friedrichsstraße” there are also many shopping centres and shops from basic to expensive. The “Friedrichsstraße” gives the street a special feel with its newly designed buildings, its dinky offices and trendy coffee shops. Here you can feel a bit of the New York lifestyle in the heart of Berlin.
But if you are looking for very specific things then you should go to East Berlin. East Berlin has improved in recent years and now you can find a great variety of creative and hip shops. More and more trendy shops are opening in the east of the city – because over time East Berlin has become a trendy place, fashion is different to that of West Berlin, and many shop owners have set up shop towards Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.
The nearby Alexanderplatz is currently being turned into a shopping zone. With the opening of the big ALEXA Shopping Mall, past the town hall and “Galeria Kaufhof” department store, a new shopping paradise has been created. The lively atmosphere of the famous Alexanderplatz invites you to experience a special shopping trip. Whether you seek fashion, beauty, electronics or culinary items, you can find everything in the 180 stores of the Alexa shopping mall.
For label lovers, a visit of the “Oranienburger Strasse” or the “Hackeschen Höfe” is a must: there are lots of trendy and exclusive international fashion designers here. The “Hackescher Markt”, the “Hackeschen Höfe” and the surrounding streets have already become a “tourist must” due to the diverse variety of art, culture and commerce. Mainstream is “out” in this shopping zone, individual and distinctive fashion is “in”. You will find numerous crazy shops here.
The yellow subway runs on the elevated subway track at the junction “Eberswalder Strasse” and you can find another shopping zone full of trendy clothes here. As well as this, you can find typical curry sausage stalls and magazine distributors, only a few meters away from clubs and bars in trendy locations. The “Schönhauser Allee” or “Kastanienallee” is something of a melting pot, you can find everything here. Berlin shops with their own labels are situated here tooin simple, whitewashed galleries with international artists.
There is also a large shopping mall in the new centre of Berlin; “the Potsdamer Platz”. This square has modern architecture in all corners, and of course different shops in the “Potsdamer Platz Arkraden” or the Sony- Center. Nearby attractions invite you to enjoy a pleasant evening in the cinema, the theatre or the casino.
In the east you can shop without stress and there are exclusive and offbeat things to discover. The best thing is just to wander through the streets, so you can find the best shops.
