Stornoway, or as it appears on the road signs, Steornabhagh (Gaelic), on the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides Isles of Scotland, is the principal town of the district and the administration centre. To the usual tourist to the Hebrides Isles Stornoway can seem slightly boring however Stornoway has some truly beautiful spots worht a visit including, possibly the best, the heavily wooded grounds of Lews Castle. For a few years now the Local Council have invested a large amount of money in improving the aesthetics of Stornoway in different ways such as by building fountains and small gardens and even sculptures such as the herring girl right in the cente of town. As well as the plain fact that Stornoway is home to a few positive aspects in reference to visitor attractions that are indeed fairly attractive there are also a large number of highly regarded places worth visiting that are not too far from Stornoway itself, especially the highly popular, and incredibly magnificent, stone circle at Calanais.
The Isle of Lewis has a great deal to offer the tourist not least the terrific sandy shores, found on the south west coast, or the iron age Dùn Chàrlabhaigh Broch, found not far from the previously mentioned stone circle at Calanais. With such a large selection of worthwhile places to hand Steornabhagh is considered the best to use as a base for an Isle of Lewis holiday. So the only thing to do is settling upon which Lewis hotels to stay in.
The Caberfeidh Hotel is the town’s most favoured hotel. To be found on the road out of Stornoway, overlooking the the popular Lews Castle grounds ( which are extremely interesting and well worth an hour or two), this is the hotel to stay in if you would prefer quieter surroundings during your Lewis holiday.
The Royal Hotel is the town’s most ancient hotel and is sitting right at the very heart of the town, (well, a very short walking distance from it), and overlooking the marina with the grounds of Lews Castle in the distance. This is the Steornabhagh hotel to make your booking with if you would prefer everything the town has to offer close by during your Lewis holiday.
The Caladh Inn is Steornabhagh’s most substantial hotel offering the largest selection of rooms. To be found on the road out of Stornoway, but on the airport road (rather than the Harris road where you find the Caberfeidh), this hotel is another that is a few minutes away from Steornabhagh town centre and all of the facilities made available there.
