Malta hotels provide the perfect base to explore the settings for a number of iconic films for all the film buffs out there. The island has seen many great movies filmed there, making it an ideal holiday destination for fans of epic movies. 

The Mediterranean Film Studios has many hotel deals nearby, which are sure to attract the biggest movie fans out there. Due to its shallow water tank facility, the studio is the location of choice for filming underwater scenes. Alexander, Troy and Gladiator are perhaps three of the best known epic films ever made, and all three of them were made more impressive by the stunning scenery provided by Malta.   

If you want to be captured by Colin Farrell in Alexander, then make sure you look for hotel deals close to Valletta’s Grand Harbour, which you will recognise from the film. The Coliseum scenes in Gladiator were filmed at the Fort in a replica of Rome’s most renowned landmark.

Those who prefer their epic films to be tinged with tragedy and romance will prefer to search Malta for the areas where Troy was filmed. Brad Pitt battled it out with the Trojans at Fort Ricasoli, Mellieha and Comino and the stunning scenery here more than makes up for the lack of Spartan warriors.  

The setting of scenes from the 2002 production of the Count of Monte Cristo is home to many cheap hotels, and is great if you like watching films with slightly more steamy storylines. Scenes were filmed around St Paul’s Cathedral, and St Mary’s Tower on the island of Comino, as the film was shot close to Valletta.
