Renting a Luxury Car When you're on
vacation, you might want to go out of your way to enjoy yourself. A good trip
usually includes good locales, good food, good cars and an overall great time.
Perhaps your idea of a good time is wheeling around in that shiny new
Cadillac Escalade or you want something special to surprise the love of your
life for a weekend getaway.
If you're thinking of renting a luxury car
on your vacation you will need to keep a few guidelines in mind.
- Always go through a known source for renting a
luxury car. To get the best deals, request your hotel in the city where you are
vacationing to negotiate for you. It may be easier for the locals to bargain
for the right price, if rates are flexible.
- You might see if your credit card offers any
partner deals or if you can use your airline miles or credit card points to
rent a luxury car. Look for coupon codes online and in print. Many car rental
agencies like Enterprise offer a free upgrade coupon on the back of their
receipts. That way you can sometimes rent a luxury car by just paying for a
premium or mid size vehicle.
- Be very specific in your request and insist on the
options or colors you desire to be sure you get what you want. Since you're
paying good money for the rental, it entitles you to choose the make and model.
Find out all about the car you're thinking about from the manufacturers website
or by visiting a local dealership.
- Choose the unlimited mileage option which is
standard with big names like Budget, Hertz and Alamo. You may be able to rent
some exotic cars, like a Rolls Royce Phantom or a Ferrari, on an hourly or
daily rates and limited mileage. Be clear on the details or you may be charged
a penalty for driving more than the allotted miles.
- Be sure to have the right documents (such as a
drivers license, passport, proof of insurance, etc) before you plan on renting
a luxury car.
- Be sure to add your spouses name on the rental
agency's paperwork so that they can also drive the car. You'll need their
driver's license number and a few other basic details.
- Most car rental agencies require that the driver
be at least 21 years of age and has a clean record and comprehensive
insurance.
- When renting a luxury car you will probably be
asked not to leave the state, and definitely not the country.
- Very rarely do car rental agencies accept a cash
deposit. You will be required to have a valid major credit card in the driver's
name.
Many major hotel chains have their own fleet of luxury
cars, and in case they do not, they will most definitely have contacts for
agencies that do. This is why it is always wiser to go through someone who has
local contacts and knows the deals.
A few car rental tips: When it comes to
rental cars the costs can vary widely and it really pays to shop around.
Sometimes you will be offered good deals as part of your hotel stay or airfare.
These combination deals will also be a lot cheaper than you could get on your
own.
