Martinsville Speedway

Martinsville Speedway is a 0.526 mile oval with 12 degree banking, located near Martinsville, Virginia. Martinsville Speedway is located on Route 220, roughly 1/2 way between Roanoake, Virginia and Greensboro, North Carolina.

Martinsville opened as a dirt track on July 4th, 1947 under the direction of H. Clay Earles. It last ran as a dirt track on or about Jun 26th, 1955. It reopened as a paved oval October 2nd, 1955. Earles managed the track until his death in 1999 at age 86. The NASCAR Grand National Series (Winston Cup, now Nextel Cup) first ran at Martinsville in 1949.
